The Role

Location: Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver
Rate: $50/hour
Job Type: Flexible hours | Live events | Project based

We’re looking for freelance Live Calligraphers to join our team for events and branded activations. This role involves providing live calligraphy at events, writing short phrases, initials, names, or quotes with speed and style.

About us

Poesy is Canada’s only experiential writing agency, delivering hands-on writing experiences to inspire creativity and connection at live events, workshops, and through custom gifts. We specialize in nostalgic experiences that use vintage tools to inspire deeply personal and timeless artistic experiences.

Why Join

Join a growing network of artists who love turning words into unforgettable moments—without having to chase leads or manage the back end.

As an agency, we handle everything behind the scenes so you can just show up and do what you do best. We take care of the heavy lifting so your role stays focused, creative, and stress-free.

We handle:

  • All event logistics, bookings, client comms

  • Branding, promotion, admin, invoicing, insurance, exposure and content creation
  • Expenses related to vendor fees and travel expenses when applicable
  • A premium experience the you just step into

What You'll Do

  • On-site calligraphy: Create polished calligraphy on paper, place cards, tags, envelopes, or custom surfaces—usually names, initials, short affirmations, or 1–3 word phrases
  • Create fast, polished calligraphy: Expect to create 8–12 pieces per hour depending on the format (e.g., names vs. longer phrases). Events typically run 2–4 hours.
  • Live interaction: Work in front of guests with confidence and ease. You’ll be part of the experience, so comfort with small talk or warm presence is key
  • Represent Poesy with professionalism and style

What You'll Need

  • Your own calligraphy tools (pens, nibs, ink, etc.)

  • A strong sense of style and attention to detail

  • Comfort working in front of people and sometimes fast-paced environments.

  • Strong time management (able to pace your work at 8–12 pieces/hour)
